I decided that I was too close to being downwind of the fire, so I hiked back down a ways and tried to approach from a different angle. This time I was faced with crossing another shooting area to get a closer look at the growing fire. There was heavy gunfire from target (I hope!!) shooters in the valley between me and the fire, so I decided it wasn't worth the risk to get any closer. I really didn't feel like getting fried or shot today. Besides, no one was paying me for any of my investigative work.
