I thought maybe I could get a little closer look at the fire by avoiding the closed roads and going up the back way. I hiked up the controversial four-wheel drive road from Left Hand Canyon that crosses private property and hooks up with CR87J from the southeast. This was one of the numerous illegal shooting areas I had to pass through, always right next to a "No Shooting" sign.
